Happy New Year !

Objectives for 2007 - Achievements in 2006

The Nanopolis Team wishes you a Happy New Year 2007 and with this occasion would like to announce the plans for the year to come as well as to summarize achievements in 2006.

Creating slides illustrating scientific or technological concepts is a long and difficult process. Keeping such presentations up-to-date as well as putting everything together in a graphical manner is also complicated. Furthermore, dissemination of this material is almost impossible because most tools for slide editing are offline. Each time the slides are updated they should be re-sent to the intended audience.

Considering all these reasons, the main Nanopolis objective for 2007 is the creation of the concept of online visual course generator which will be integrated with the Nanopolis Online Multimedia Library, launched this year.

How will this work?
With only a few mouse clicks any Power Point presentation could be uploaded online and converted into graphical Flash content – online accessible. Even more, the content of your course would be instantly enriched with animations from the Nanopolis educational content. Class management and online quizzes for your students will also be available.

In 2007 Nanopolis will continue being the leader provider of the first and the only complete online e-learning platform for nanotechnology, absorbing the scientific content from more than 200 research groups around the world and transposing in real-time their know-how into up-to-date multimedia interactive explanations!

Nanopolis continues developing the fourth tome of its encyclopedic series: “Exploring Nano-Biotechnology”, a representation of life sciences from the nanotechnology point of view, explaining nanoscale processes supporting life; mechanisms of diseases; use of nano tools and technology in life sciences; biotech specific tools; applications and prospects, among others. Visit our website www.nanopolis.net to participate or to benefit of the 50% pre-release discount (available in 2007).

Happy New Year 2007!
The Nanopolis Team

Nanopolis achievements in 2006
Nanopolis is now an independent entity – the leading producer of multimedia content for nanoscience and technology, benefiting from the experience, resources and personnel of the iMediasoft Group. Spinning off from iMediasoft gave Nanopolis the chance of further refining the e-tools that cover the needs of our collaborators. We’re renewing all of our electronic platforms and websites, the most notable example being the Nanopolis Integrated Online Editorial System available online at www.nanopolis.net/nanoedit Buying online from Nanopolis is now easier and more affordable. Order page is simpler and clients can buy online Nanopolis content in a pay-per-view concept (http://online.nanopolis.net)

The Scientific and Graphic Teams continue working on the “Exploring Nano-Biotechnology” multimedia encyclopedia. The content is complimentary to the content of the previous 3 Nanopolis encyclopedic volumes: “Exploring Matter with Neutrons”, “Exploring Matter with Synchrotron Light” and “Exploring Nanotechnology”, more than 3,000 multimedia pages in total, creating a valuable e-learning resource for the non-specialists, for its simple visual language, and also for the specialists of its wide scope.

"Exploring Matter with Neutrons" encyclopedia - the highlight of the ICNS 2005 conference

The "Exploring Matter with Neutrons" encyclopedia - second edition - was presented to a select audience of 750 researchers involved in neutronics research during the "International Conference on Neutron Scattering" which took place in Sydney, Australia between 27th and 2nd December 2005.

Here is an excerpt from the encyclopedia's presentation:

"When consulted in 1998 about the teaching of neutron science, the main claim from teachers was "we need up-to-date educational material!" One of the consequences was an ambitious CD-ROM project intended to cover almost all aspects of neutron science and techniques. We will present the outcome of this initial project, the CD-ROM "Exploring matter with neutrons" v2. Let us summarize it in few numbers: […] 1700 pages, 3000 images, animations and movies, and more than one hundred contributors from the worldwide neutron community. The targeted audience is mainly students, teachers, or scientists but not experts in specific domains of neutron science, although it will prove useful in neutron summer schools and to widen the general knowledge of specialists in a different neutron area."
