The Hahn-Meitner Institute (HMI), Berlin - The Newest Scientific Partner of Nanopolis

The newest Scientific Partner of Nanopolis - The Hahn-Meitner Institute (HMI), Berlin, Germany

HMI’s research reactor, accelerator and 800-strong staff serve the investigation of solid matter and materials as well as new materials and manufacturing techniques for photovoltaic cells. Neutron experiments are undertaken at the Berlin Neutron Scattering Center (BENSC), using the upgraded research reactor BER II - Germany's most modern facility for cold and thermal neutron scattering research.

The presence of the Hahn-Meitner Institute in the Nanopolis project reinforces the positioning of the Exploring Matter with Neutrons encyclopedia as the only multimedia encyclopedic reference in the neutronics world.

HMI’s participation brings a much appreciated contribution to the content of the encyclopedia. Universities worldwide now have the opportunity to provide their students with educational content on neutron scattering experiments under low and high temperatures, high magnetic fields and high pressures as seen from the perspective of an institute with worldwide recognized expertise.

Hahn-Meitner Institute’s top research on the structures of solid matter and materials and manufacturing techniques for photovoltaic cells constitute superb examples of fundamental science directed toward applications. HMI as a partner opens gates to including content on these applications to the more than 4000 screens of Nanopolis’ educational material. Thus, Nanopolis reinforces its objective: mirroring in real-time and stimulating the interaction between science, industry and education.
